Not Just a Picky Eater: Red Flags for Feeding Therapy

Feeding therapy may be right for your child if his or her life is disrupted by any of these persisting signals:

  • poor weight gain

  • does not eat a variety of foods of different textures

  • does not drink from a variety of different cups (i.e. open cup, straw, etc.)

  • avoids trying new foods

  • does not eat a variety of foods from different food groups

  • coughs, chokes, gags, or vomits while eating

  • demonstrates more behaviors during mealtimes than during other times of the day

  • avoids harder to eat foods such as meat and hard vegetables

If any of these sound like your child’s experience, feeding therapy may be in order. Let us know here if you’d like to schedule an evaluation with one of our feeding therapists.
