Client Sick Policy and Coronavirus Concerns
Client Sick Policy
If a child has a cough (that’s not constant) and/or congestion with NO fever, they can attend their regularly scheduled therapy sessions as long as there is no known COVID exposure. We will recommend the child wear a mask for therapy.
If a child has a runny nose with a slight cough but NO fever, they can attend their regularly scheduled therapy sessions as long as no known COVID exposure. We will recommend the child wear a mask for therapy.
If a child has experienced vomiting/diarrhea in the previous 24 hours, he/she will not be allowed to attend their regularly scheduled therapy sessions.
An individual diagnosed with impetigo or strep throat may return to school or work after taking prescribed medication for 24 hours.
An individual diagnosed with pink eye and other potentially communicable conditions may return to school or work according to their health care provider’s instructions.
If a child has a fever (100.4 degrees or higher), he/she will not be allowed to attend their regularly scheduled therapy sessions until fever-free for 24 hours.
A healthcare provider note/excuse may be required for return to therapy.
If parent/guardian feel that it’s best for the child to stay home, a telehealth session will be offered. If the child cannot complete a telehealth session or parent chooses not to have the child participate in a telehealth session, the session will be counted as a cancel.
If a child attends their regularly scheduled therapy session and is lethargic or cannot complete therapeutic activities due to illness symptoms, we will escort them back to parents and end the session early (at the discretion of the therapist).
Coronavirus Concerns
A child with a positive COVID test or presumed positive can return to clinic:
When at least 5 days have passed since symptoms started and the symptoms have significantly improved/resolved and:
there is no fever (100.4° F or higher), without having taken any fever reducing medications, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen;
no vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours or
an alternate diagnosis is provided and/or documentation of a negative COVID test.
If possible, a mask will be recommended to wear during therapy sessions.
COVID Exposures
If your child has been identified as in close contact with a COVID positive individual(s):
If child is up to date with COVID vaccinations (5 or older), they can come to therapy with no interruption in services SO long as they have no symptoms and can wear a mask.
If child has NOT been vaccinated, they need to quarantine for 10 days and child can attend therapy via telehealth.
Close contact = 15 min or more within 6 feet over a 24-hour period
CDC Guidelines:
Close Contacts of Persons with COVID-19
Whether and for how long to stay home for people who have been exposed to a person with COVID-19 depends on vaccination status.
Children and unvaccinated staff who had close contact with someone who has (suspected or confirmed) COVID-19 should stay home (quarantine) for 5 days after their last exposure to that person. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. Some localities might choose to use testing to shorten quarantine.
People who are fully up-to-date with Covid vaccinations and do not have COVID-19 symptoms do not need to quarantine or get tested after an exposure to someone with COVID-19, but do need to wear a mask and monitor for symptoms.
